FAQ
Will all submitted scripts be featured in Page to Stage?
Due to the number of submissions and limited time at the event, we unfortunately cannot include all scripts we receive. Festival works will be selected based on adherence to the submission guidelines, the number and lengths of submissions received, perceived merit of the work, and the work's alignment with Many Hats Theatre's mission.

What are the benefits for playwrights who participate?
Many Hats Theatre provides rehearsal time, a director, and skilled actors to bring the playwright's script to life at live staged reading event. Many Hats Theatre organizes the entire event, providing both space and marketing. The festival gives playwrights the opportunity to have their works seen, heard, and discussed in a public forum, thereby allowing them to further develop their writing. Playwrights will also receive a professional review of their work by award-winning novelist, playwright, and poet Clint McCown, who teaches scriptwriting and creative fiction for the MFA programs at Virginia Commonwealth University and Vermont College of Fine Arts.

How are playwrights involved in the process?
After the scripts have been selected, Many Hats Theatre will hold auditions and put together a cast of actors to bring the scripts to life in staged readings. Before Page to Stage, the director and actors will meet several times to rehearse and discuss the scripts. Playwrights are encouraged to attend at least one of these rehearsals to hear their script read aloud, offer insights into the text, and respond to questions about their work. Playwrights are also asked to be in attendance at the Page to Stage performance and participate in a post-show talk back that allows the audience to ask questions about the works performed.

I'm 16 years old.  Can I still submit a play?
Absolutely!  Page to Stage accepts submissions from playwrights of any age, experience, and background.  Works will be selected based on adherence to the submission guidelines, the number and lengths of submissions received, perceived merit of the work, and the work's alignment with Many Hats Theatre's mission.
